Aloha, Steve! Really enjoyed this video & am sure to visit Uncle Les & Cuz Herman @ Da Kitchen when I return home to Maui for a month this September! It will be my very first return visit since the pandemic & since the 2023 wildfires. You have a contagious enthusiasm for well-prepared, exquisite-tasting food & your review of Da Kitchen's offerings is absolutely no exception. One thing, though, I need to mention: You might have asked Uncle Les, Cuz Herman, or one of the local folks in the eatery to demonstrate the proper way real Hawaiians generally like to eat their poi. Certainly not the way you showed, but, rather, ALWAYS a spoonful or fingerful of poi simultaneously w/ a spoonful or fingerful of lau lau, kālua pork, lomi lomi salmon. Or, in more modern times, poi simultaneously w/ a morsel of kal bi, teriyaki chix/beef, or katsu. It is the combo of the creamy poi w/ the saltier protein offerings that truly pluck old-school Hawaiian taste buds! If going traditional in many Island homes, hard-core Hawaiians secure a cloth over a large bowl of poi & allow it to ferment @ room temp on the kitchen counter until it is more white than purple. (Personally, I like mine cured this way at least for a full week.) Poi's tartness @ this point is CRAZILY 'ono (delicious) w/ any of the salty food w/ which it is simultaneously eaten. See if you can find & try it this way on your next Maui Adventure! Best way to describe fermented poi in Western culinary terms: a plant-based, non-dairy Hawaiian yogurt. Nonetheless, mahalo (kamsa hamnida) for all your great videos, esp. this one & the one reviewing the Kīhei Food Oasis! I love them all! 🤙🏽 Robby of Maui

Use to go there. We travel to Kihei nearly every summer. DaKitchen is good but too expensive. Try Kilos Kitchen on the way to Hana. Best katsu and poke. Also Kula Lodge Garden Terrace seating for their quiche. Crazy but so good. Who would think? Lol!

Welcome to Maui. If you don’t like the prices don’t go. Everything is out of control expensive on Maui but you can always go to the store and buy all the ingredients and cook it yourself but it won’t be the same. Everyone keeps thinking it’s 1990 the good ole day. Aloha🌺

Hawaii local food, not "Hawaiian" food. Also, because it's an island, you're "on" Maui, not "in" Maui. Food looks great!

To me, the Mac and potato salad has too much mayonnaise

We were just there and threw most of our food out. Super over rated. Pork was dry. Soggy lomi. I feel like we got leftovers from the night before. We went right at 11. Maybe better later in the day when they make it fresh.
