This runner gave up on a gold medal, but proved he has a heart of gold. The Kenyan runner was awarded $15,000 after giving up his chances of winning a race to help a competitor finish.
Simon Cheprot was about to cross the finish line in the Okpekpe Internation 10-kilometer Road Race in Nigeria when he noticed a fellow Kenyan runner, Kenneth Kipkemoi, collapse. He stopped, lifted Kipkemoi up and carried him across the finish line. Cheprot won the 2016 Okpekpe Race and finished second last year. He was a strong contender to be the first person to win twice in the seven years the annual race began.

It's better to have a golden heart than a gold medal

Look like it was not the one winning the race. Or I am making a mistake. Anyway this is an act of bravery and humanity. What a deep message to world. Values are superior to money definitely.

The Okpekpe road race is one if the hardest in the world. 100+ degree heat, real hill climbing, it's basically a tour de France stage that you run.
For cheprot to stop and help, that was awesome. He never wasn't going to. He made that decision when eounded the corner and saw 2 others just pass him by. A true champion, both of them. The other guy wouldve literally clawed himself to the line.

Awesome gesture indeed, although the Medics response was totally sub-standard _ Observing how long it took for even a single medical personal (AT THE FINISH LINE) showed some sort of appearance / even to the extent of being summoned by a runner equally exhausted . Geez!! We have a long way to go

A noble kind gesture on the part of Cheprot...he could have crossed the finish line first then help afterwards his competitor for there was about 2 meters left to finish the race...Hats off and Baravo to you Mr. Cheprot...
