You did a really good job explaining this book without saying to much of anything that could effect someone watching. I know this is probably really hard to read but I'm going to get it and read it anyway. I feel like sometimes as hard as these books are to read they are important to be read. That way we can know some of what to look for and know ways to protect the children in our lives. As a mom this is some of my biggest fears but I'll read it like I said. Nothing we can read is as hard as the things children actually go through in these situations and it makes more people aware this is happening everyday. Thanks for the review. Great job John. Xo

I'm in the process of reading this now. I've got what I would consider to be a very strong stomach. And the first chapter or two was almost too much for even me. This is absolutely one book I wouldn't fault someone for not being able to finish

Recently read a book that explores similar subject matter (Mysterious Skin), which was difficult, insightful, haunting, and replete with beautiful prose. Not horror, yet very horrific. It is always interesting how horror is always the genre that explores this particular subject with inventiveness and empathy. This is the one subject matter that I tread carefully on, because of personal reasons, and it has been difficult for me to get through books like The Girl Next Door and Lolita, so I probably will not be reading this. But still, horror is really the only place that insists on bringing this ugly, real-life monstrosity to the surface. I think it’s important.

This book was extremely hard to read. The only thing that kept me going were the revenge scenes. I can forgive people for a lot of things, but torturing and molesting children is not one of them. Reading about the destruction of these monsters in the only thing that kept me going. I have no sympathy for child predators

The thing that makes Survivor so disturbing is that Lisa gives up a mother and her baby in hopes she will be able to survive and readers get into Lisa's head. Survivor is very effective because there is an insane amount of dread. How is the dread in the Groomer? Does the author focus much in the way of Andrew's thoughts, or does the author primarily focus on the visceral content? After reading this do you struggle trying to decide which book is more disturbing? Survivor or The Groomer?
