@christopherfarrell-artist3557 writes in saying that putting the Roland S-1 at end of chain has helped to eliminate usb ground noise issues, and I figured it was worth testing out for myself.
Unfortunately for my setup, it seems like the ground noise issues are still there when connected to my MacBook Pro, and only a noise isolation device has helped me eliminate this problem so far.
