Pokémon: Live Action Series (2025) | Netflix | 10 Pokémon That Could Lead The Series

One of our main pitches for this upcoming series revolves around a new set of characters with no-tie to the 2019 Detective Pikachu Movie. After all, we weren't exactly the biggest fans of the film. This means that Netflix's Live-Action Pokemon series needs to find a new lead Pokemon. Yes, we're talking about saying goodbye to Pikachu... at least for a while.

With that said we have given ourselves the impossible task of trying to find a Pokemon that is can take over the mantle from Pikachu. This is 10 Pokemon That Could and Should Lead the Series.

NEWS ABOUT THE PROJECT 📰
In July 2021, Variety reported that a new Pokemon series is in early development at Netflix. The show is still in early development so no details are available about the plot.

Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce. Henderson currently serves as co-showrunner and executive producer on the popular Netflix series “Lucifer,” which wrapped up its final season at the streaming giant.

It is also being reported that the project would be a live-action series akin to the “Detective Pikachu” film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith that was released in 2019.

The move to develop an original Netflix Pokemon series comes as the streamer has made itself the home to multiple existing Pokemon shows, including “Pokemon: Indigo League” and “Pokemon Journeys” among others. Netflix has also been making a strong push into anime in recent years, having previously announced original series based on “Far Cry,” “Splinter Cell,” and “Terminator.” Netflix has been moving into more live-action adaptations of anime titles as well, including the upcoming “Cowboy Bebop” and “One Piece” live-action shows. The streamer previously released a live-action “Death Note” film in 2017.

Well, Detective Pikachu convinced me that with the right artists and CGI budget, a live-action Pokémon series could absolutely work! The ones in the movie looked believable enough.

I would love to see a series that revolved around an Eevee like that. In the manga, which is a lot darker than the cartoon, Red actually had an Eevee that could originally transform between Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon at-will, up until it permanently evolved into an Espeon. His Eevee had a particularly delicate DNA structure, so it was more sensitive to the environment than other Eevee, but it also made its health really bad and it couldn't stay outside of its pokeball for very long. That was even the reasoning they gave for why Red was at the top of Mt. Silver in the gen 2 games, because he had been treating Eevee's illness in a hot spring at the peak.

Cubone could be a nice choice too. People love happy/tragic stories about a sweet orphan animal finding a family. It would at least be good as one of the pokemon to join the team along the way in the series.

lucario and riolu always meshed with me. Their aura pokemon and as weird as it sounds I felt a connection to their aura when I saw them for the first time on the screen. From the resonating aura of riolu calling out to me and the strong presence of lucario when I saw him on the mystery of mew. I could easily see them in the live action. Mostly cause they feel as though despite being in a show they are real beyond their world.

I think Arcanine could be a good choice as well.
The first evolution is cute, the last one is strong, because it is a dog like pokemon it's loyal and also people outside the pokemon fandom can relate to dogs.
What I think could be a downside is that it might be too 'perfect'. Not enough chaos which could be not as interesting as many other Pokémon

Eevee would probably be the best choice

If there is one overlooked pokemon that could sell as the mascot for a live action pokemon series and has a cute, then teenager, then adult eco line, it's gotta be the Ralts, Kirlia, and Gardevoir/Gallade line. A good runner up would be the Deino, Zweilous and Hydreigon line. Lots of humor and sadness can be behad since this critter can't see and it's underrated.

Eevee would be perfect. They can make alot of the eeveelutions could be antagonists of the show. Plus they can make some pretty good stories with eevee. Especially making new eeveelutions.

I feel like Piplup would be a good pick! It's evolution could be good for the plot or other things like that and it's precious!
Also Garbodor should've stayed on that list cause it actually is a good Pokémon and Trubbish is really adorable even though it's a trash bag!

Detective Pikachu was a great movie. The film team did an amazing job. Better than the last 3 Star Wars films.

There was a fan game called super eevee edition. There was a genetically modified eevee that over time learned to devolve and chose another evolution. That could be a cool idea for the series. Maybe it starts off in a lab with eevee busting out and finding our protagonist. It also make it really easy to add a main antagonist (the scientists)

And this will guarantee hard core Pikachu fans will not watch. Pikachu and Ash's first meeting says it all. And, seriously, Detective Pikachu wasn't that bad.

Rockruff can be a very interesting choice. It is cute and it’s final evolutions are awesome. They can give so much to the plot story whilst the water weakness can give even more to the equation.

I love Eevee, it’s definitely gonna be main character of the live action series!

I hope it's Riolu/Lucario, but I also hope Zarude makes it in too somehow!

I'd love to see Bulbasaur, Clefairy, Machop, Meowth, or Gastly as the lead

I would want the Gible, Shinx or Eevee.

Among the ones talked about in the video, I would say Lucario. This pokemon would be a great choice since it is possible that this pokemon can speak the human language and can be a great choice for battling too.
