For many of us, the last year has been one of suspect sleep. You might have spent too much time online before bed, or were simply anxious about what was to come. Or maybe you turned a year older and your stress or bad habits were compounded by a natural decline in melatonin—a molecule we produce less of as we age.

As we age, our melatonin levels can drop, interfering with sleep and general health and wellness. But smart supplementation, with the right dose, can help you connect to natural circadian rhythms, immunity, and healthier aging.

Here, your guide for restoring melatonin, getting in sync with natural cycles, boosting immunity, and sleeping better, especially as you grow older (and wiser).

Hi Dr John.
I’m a amateur researcher and Melatonin has always intrigued me, especially now with Covid.
Is the thinking that we subtract from an optimal amount at night?
When getting tested, what is that optimal amount for healthy and preventative?
Since Melatonin has the keys to every cell (emphasis added) and into the mitochondria, any way to sneak in other compounds with melatonin into Mito for benefits? Stealthy? Might this be the future?
We wonder if someone is insulin resistant if that limits access for melatonin to cross into the brain/cells?
Thx.

I used to take a brand that made a very low dose of melatonin for long term use, I think it was 0.3. I found it at Whole Foods, then they stopped carrying it and the lowest I can find now is 1 gram.

You can break up a 1mg tablet easily to microdose

How do you respond to MDs/PhDs/studies pointing to the benefits of high doses of melatonin like 200 mg?
