In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the German Pinschers that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Working Dogs
Weight: 25 to 45 pounds
Height: 17 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12 to 14 years

The German Pinscher has the energy and drive of all working breeds, but they're also an outstanding companion. They love being with family and will meld themselves into every facet of your life. The German Pinscher's playfulness will continue well into adulthood, and they may continue to disembowel squeaky toys long past teething (dental floss is the best repair tool). When German Pinschers are in a spot of trouble at home, some will look you right in the eye and smile, showing their teeth in a big grin.

The German Pinscher was originally developed as a working dog who hunted and killed vermin. That means they'll still nail them today, so they're not going to be good in a home with pet rodents. Today, they still have the energy of a working breed and have proved themselves to be an all-around kind of pooch when it comes to canine sports and careers. You can find German Pinschers in the conformation ring, at obedience rallies or agility trials, and at work in tracking. They also work as service dogs, therapy dogs, and as pampered pets who enjoy the comforts of family life.

They can be assertive and overbearing, and they'll take over your heart and home in a matter of seconds. Don't kid yourself: they need a firm, experienced owner who is consistent in training and good at establishing rules right from the beginning. If you tend to wimp out or you want a placid dog, find another breed--this one will walk all over you.

My new pup, Tesla, she’s so magnetic, is just like that. I’m 74 and have raised many dogs, even another GP, but this girls got me reaching out for professional training. For me and my new friend.

We have standard Dachshunds, and it’s amazing how similarly they look, except the Dachshund breed is a dwarf cousin. Very similar traits too.

While driving along an old country road I suddenly hit a bump. It caught me off guard since I never saw anything in the road. I decided to pull over and investigate. To my horror it was a deceased black and tan tiny puppy... as a dog lover and service dog trainer I was distraught upon the site!!! I glanced around to see there were no houses around. Our of respect I pushed the lifeless body to the side of the road and into the thick grass. But then I saw it's sibling whom must have passed on over a day or two ago. Beside it was a weathered cardboard box... my sadness turned to anger as I began to suspect that some cruel being actually put these puppies here and left them for dead. As a tear dried on my cheek and my fist clinched I saw it... a tiny brown creature wiggling and bouncing about without a care in the world! It was yet another puppy but this one had survived! Without hesitation I scooped up the helpless fur baby and placed him in my car. After double checking that there were no more puppies, I quickly took him home. The little spitfire was skin and bones with patches of fur missing and tear stained eyes. I gave him a feast which he ate 3 times his weight of. My husband named him Burrito after his big stuffed belly. It's been a few days and little Burrito has gained 3.5 pounds! He still has bad dreams at night that makes him cry while sleeping but they happen less and less often! After doing some research I'm sure Burrito is a German Pinscher. I can't wait to watch him grow up strong, healthy and happy!

These facts are really true and I’m very proud to own such a beautiful dog of this breed, but please stop to crop their ears and tails, here in Germany it’s forbidden. The dogs need it for their communication and balance.

Great video and thanks : ) I have had 3 German pinschers and they are truely an awesome breed . 2 of them have passed but i have now a 13 year old German pinsher named Heven and she is just the best and funniest, My dogs never liked toys i bought them EVERY toy available they dont care, ,, they are just all about food and treats. Nosework is key for this breed .
Thankfully my dogs never got destructive the howled when i was away but they did not ruin anything.
I Recommend this breed to active loving people with some patience because they are very stubborn

I bought a German Pincher. If you have mice or other small creatures in your yard, they will disappear.
