Now this just defeats the idea of upgrading your walls because the one attacking you can just put down a root rider and a whole set of walls will just dissapate

Seems like fun! However, walls are basically cosmetic at this point, as so many new troops can destroy them easily.

This should be severely balanced. Given that it is "root", it should receive double damage from fire-based defenses such as the Inferno tower.

Edit: I don't mean CHEAP cheap just like not 9mil a piece reduce that by 10-15% and i think that's good. Honestly I think upgrade times could also be reduced a bit as a qol thing but i dont mind that much
