Do cats really understand hugs and kisses? It's a tough question, as every cat is unique. Some love affection, others not so much. They may not understand hugs and kisses like we do, but most learn to recognize them as a sign of love. Observe your kitty’s behavior and adjust your affection accordingly. Hugs and kisses may be okay, but if they start hissing or swatting, it's better to stick with petting. And remember, a good belly rub is always a hit!

Actually, most cats don't like belly rubs. Seeing as that is where their vital internal organs are, they aren't too fond of anyone touching that area. Not all cats are completely opposed to it, but it's not uncommon that many of them won't appreciate it.
