No es cierto que la botella sea un aditamento innecesario.
La botella permite la succión inicial, que pone en funcionamiento el sistema de manera estable.
De otro modo habría que dar ese impulso inicial succionando con la boca o sumergiendo la manguera hasta que estuviera totalmente llena.
Es una buena idea para casos en que haya sólo un agujero pequeño por donde succionar y también para aquellos quienes gusten de la comodidad.

This siphon is a great way to avoid having to suck dirty water in your mouth, or having to put water into the exit tube to get it started. Its really convenient to be able to just fill up the bottle then just let the siphon do its work after you remove the stopper at the end of the exit tube.
