Signalstuff donates some of their proceeds back to a service that helps new hams study for their license. You must have a ham radio license to use these radios on ham frequencies and repeaters. You can program the radio for FRS frequencies and use it as a local walkie talkie with great range, limited to 2 watts. You must have a license to use GMRS frequencies and repeaters.

I just got the 88 but it has to be sent to me from my buddy. Good to keep in the car as an emergency radio.👍

Hope you are enjoying the hobby.
Keep in mind that bfs are cheap entry level but garbage when it comes to transitioning and other filters, so it's not likely that TYT will ever be that cheap.

Also, try TYT UV8000D in the same price range, I think you'll be amazed! They are chirp compatible and as a bonus you can unlock the 220 band, as well.

Did you consider going for a license? Using the transmitter will take your joy to the next level!

I can't unlock the VHF frequency in uv98. Is there any key combinations to unlock the 144.000 - 147.000

Can you program the uv98 in chirp using the uv88 ? Since the 98 isn’t in chirp ?

The UV98 is one of the best (if not THE best) "cheap" radio available on market. I bought 2 of these as I was so amazed by its quality! The UV8000 is a real gem as well, like the UV98 is😊 The UV8200 is the superior model for the UV8000 ("upgraded" for some people, but the UV8200 doesn't use the same plateform as the UV8000, so to me it's a different radio) as it is IP67/waterproof rated but it's not as good as the UV8200 or the UV98, so to my tastes it's not worth the double of the price it cost... (90$ for the UV8200 instead of the 45/50$ for the UV98) The Baofeng H6 and H7 are good radios as well if you want to stick with Baofeng and deserved to be tested! But TYT in general offer a much better product with better design, more powerfull gear and better overall quality...
