HOW TO FISH in RUST

This short will teach you the BEST ways to FISH IN RUST. There is also a a handy tip for the best SOLO BASE for maximising scrap by selling fish.

Fishing Tips:

EDIT: Apparently, things have changed. I'll go get my Bill Dance on and check it out.

- When you catch any of the small fish (Sardine, Anchovy, Herring) gut them for raw fish, which is a better bait than the fish themselves.
- Do not gut Small Trout, as they are the absolute best bait for catching Catfish and Small Sharks, with a Bait level of 10. Always fish with them whole.
- If you're almost out of bait and absolutely must gut something, a Catfish gives you 18 Raw Fish, and you'll most likely catch either two more Salmon or two Sharks, along with all the other fish you catch.
- Never use Catfish as bait. Snall Trout work because the three fish you're going to catch with it are A: Small Trout, so you basically just traded one for one, B: Catfish, this is one of your money fish and should only be gutted when absolutely necessary, or C: Small Shark, the ones you want and the backbone of fish for scrap trading.
- Lastly, if you have any leftover Raw Fish when you leave (after refilling the bait in your rod) cook it up. Cooked Fish gives 5 health, 15 Hydration, and 60 Calories. It's a damn good source of food to keep in your base.

You can actually fish in a 3x1 base. Put triangle 3 story deep and followed by 2 squares. Put tc on the last square. Also put a chair in the last square at the edge of water and it will prevent fish loss. Also you don’t have to keep looking at the fish if you sit on the chair.

I have built a water fishing base on today date and it's working.
Getting around 300 scrap an hour sometimes less

If you gut the smaller fish (bait level 3) you get animal fat (bring cloth and make that low-grade, Boyz!) and raw fish meat (bait level 5). These are more likely to get your fish. Small sharks your goal? Use the small trout or salmon (bait level 10). DO NOT GUT THEM (unless you need more bait 😉). Salmon are only 55/2, but you can stack 10 in a slot. 10 sharks take two slots, for 450 scrap. The same slots, full of salmon, gets you 550 scrap.

I've tried fishing on 3 separate occasions and it was a waste of time every time. I never saw any of the good fish. I fished, used the small fish as bait, which caught more small fish. I don't know, maybe bad luck or I'm missing something but that shit is infuriating and boring. I could easily farm 2/3x more scrap and comps just running the road.
