This is why I bought CM Storm Quickfire instead of Bw even though I'm a Razer fanboy, for some reasons they have no quality control over their keyboards. And almost all of their product recently. Anyway, nice video, I always thought fonts on Razer keycaps (non LED) would wear out over time cuz another video tell me so but without showing it, seems like it's not the case.

I'll lean towards solder as well. I had the blackwidow before that with the blue LEDs. The G key would sometimes double and triple press. I decided to switch with a lesser used key, macro key M5. I opened it up, desoldered both, swapped it, and now they both work fine.
My 2013 hasnt had a problem and its now a year and half old. Besides S and E keys showing wear.
Thats something now I think. The blue LED 2012 one had crazy wear on the keys in under a year. Id keep applying with a black marker to try to neaten it.

I had my Logitech G710+ for about 6 months, but I soon got tired of it and bought the Logitech Orion Spark with the customized Logitech keys. So I know the Cherry MX keys ARE quite sturdy and durable.

I just bought the new Blackwidow 2014 edition with Razer's own branded switches.  Now that the patent for Cherry's MX switch has expired I could see other manufactures start to create their own slant on the gaming swtich.  Not sure if it will improve things but I will soon find out.  I already have a Filco Majetouch-2 Ninja TKL and a Logetich 710+ so with the Blackwidow I should be able to rotate them out and not have to worry about over usage or wearing them out too quickly.   Also, it has been my experience that if you have a problem with a Razer product, just contact their customer service directly and explain.  They typically just exchange things; no questions asked.  That's been my experience though.

I think Razer make their own key switches now .

Two years on a keyboard isn't THAT bad, and naturally, you should've took the keyboard back to the store when you noticed the 5 key was broken. You should always request to test anything over $100 at the store regardless. Most are more than willing, unless it's a small and busy store.
If you bought that keyboard and played almost every day for a good hour (I assume you do, it isn't likely anyone has that set up that doesn't game) on a top quality keyboard for two years... That's money well spent. The switches are easily replaced too.
