Amidst deadly student protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina resigned as the Prime Minister yesterday, and fled to India. Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar on Tuesday told the Rajya Sabha that former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina "requested approval to come to India for the moment" on very short notice in the wake of the political turmoil in Bangladesh.

It would be completely wrong for India to give asylum to Shaikh Hasina. It will unnecessarily antagonize the people of Bangladesh. Arrange for her asylum in some country such as Belarus. Her constant presence in India will damage India-Bangladesh relations which India cannot afford.

General is wrong.Bangaldesh is not strategically placed piece of land. It is people of bangladesh. Even those non secular, opposed to India, supporters of Pakistan/china are citizens and should have rights and a voice which was being shut for 3 elections. Opposition being jailed, banned, suppressed illegally was wrong. Doesn't matter if opposition is anti India, they should have rights to life and have a voice. More than a statue being hanged, worse disturbing scenes are the murders they have seen.

As a Bangladeshi, democracy, accountability, and human rights are our top priorities. We are ushering in a new era of prosperity while also fostering strong friendly relationships with our neighbors. We are hopeful for mutual respect from our Indian brothers. Peace.

Actual killing is no less than 1500 and count goes on until 5th of August. Govt is totally dependent on establishment and establishment became trigger happy force, everyone in Awami league is threatening anyone who says or express any opposing of their wrong doing. There were mismanagement of banks economic institutions and we have 100 bn plus debt whereas our reserve 12 bn
India should not encourage autocratic rules in its neighbour when India practice of democratic values in its own country. It’s not helping India in securing its good relations with people of Bangladesh

India's concerns about the situation in Bangladesh are understandable, but as a Bangladeshi, We assure you that our land will not be used for any vested interests. It is important to acknowledge the truth as they reflect the ground reality. We warmly invite Indian journalists to visit Bangladesh and see the facts for themselves, rather than making assumptions from afar.
We respectfully request the Indian government to focus on building relationships with the common people of Bangladesh, who ultimately shape our bilateral ties, not any political party or person. By fostering connections at the grassroots level, we can strengthen our friendship and work towards a harmonious future together.

I agree with Meenakshi, Mahfuz Anam, and Mobassher. Sadly Ambassador Sinha and ….?… assessments are grossly redundant and out of place. Times have changed and they need to look from a different perspective. Also, Unfortunately, the Indian narrative about Bangladesh has always been the same irrespective of the party in power. It reminds me of the old fashioned culture of Dadagiri (big brother). And yes, India certainly has the right to offer space to Hasina on humanitarian ground but for how long becomes now a gamble … person-party or country? In the last 3 (rigged) elections, India directly backed Hasina (Awami League) but during the regime, whenever Hasina went wrong, India turned a blind eye, stating it as “Bangladesh’s internal problems”. As for the current law and order situation, it must be understood that at present it is still the Awami government in power whose prime minister, police force have all fled. The students have once again come back to stem the rot!

It's not just last election that people of Bangladesh think were rigged. I met a Bangladeshi in Kashmir 2 years back when i had visited it as a tourist and he was against Shaikh Hasina as she was rigging elections. I think Jaishankar and Modi were betting on the wrong horse,

Here we can analyse the matter this way.

An interview with Dr. M Younus.

Journalist: What is happening in your country?
What is the reason for the anarchy in Dhaka?

Dr.
Yunus: No where!
People of my country are celebrating independence.

Journalist: That is why Sheikh Mujib's statue will be broken.

Dr. Yunus: Look, Sheikh Hasina is responsible for this.
Mujib's daughter's arrogance of power and political misrule have made people so sick!
But very soon they will be closed.
Because, we are working to establish people's rights and ensure the rule of law.

Dr.
What was the eye-catching part of Yunus' interview, do you know?

Professor Yunus has protected the people of Bangladesh all the time.
Which I have never seen any powerful leader do in my lifetime.

Then he threatened India directly.

If there is any attempt to destabilize Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Seven Sisters will not remain unscathed.

Notice that he pronounces India and Seven Sisters differently.
Do you understand how serious the threat is?

A full tiger cub.

In the past, I have seen all the powerful people of the country licking India's feet.
But Dr. Yunus is an exception

I watched the drama of the murderous dictator crying after leaving the bodies of my brothers in the hospital on the metro rail.

No one has ever defended us, owned us, talked so much for me.

But today Professor Yunus has not vilified the people of the country.
He understood people's anger.
Owned us.
Countered our threats with counter-threats.

After that, Dr. Yunus has no more restrictions to own us.
From today I addressed him as honorable Prime Minister.✌️

I have no hesitation in handing over Bangladesh to a foreign journalist who protects the country's people like this.

She has been a great friend of India. Why discuss another country not granting asylum to her. Why not discuss why the Indian government is not granting asylum to her, a great friend of India.

Do not watch Bangladesh from the eyes of Hasina or Mahfuz. The generation has changed. Bangladesh hates awami league and their ally’s.

I live with Indians and I know how close we are when we come to Europe or Africa.. Hope Indian foreign policy will change towards Bangladesh.
