Classic lego sets from 80 and 90 are the best!

oh my god this is amazing, when i was a kid in the late 90's i dreamed of making a city as big as this, ive built a few huge lego cities as an adult now but never with the old SYSTEM sets, it looks absoluetly magnificent when its all laid out together. and the custom landscaping as well - chefs kiss. this is one of my favorite city setups of all time

Gotta love the classics! I saw at least 8 of my sets and a bunch I would love to have one day! I love LEGO cities, but I also like when there's a hole in the middle of the table/city so everything is accessible at an arms reach, I guess it's the little kid in me wanting to play with everything he sees 😉

This is superb. One of my life dreams is to build a Lego City comprised of old, classic sets (including trains) that is as complete as yours. This puts a huge smile in my face. ☺️

I must say this was well executed. New ideas I havent seen from other pics or vids. Very inspiring. I would imagine adding a highway would take away space since you have the railroads, but this was one of the top 5 best I have EVER seen!!! Great work and thank you for the hard work.

I love these Lego sets from the 1980's and the 1990's the best.

Nice classic setup with all the relevant Town sets from the early 90s, I think, although I assume you could throw in some Paradisa sets for a more bustling recreational area near the shore.
However, this exhibition also clearly points out a major issue I already felt as a 7 year old in the early 90s: The LEGO catalog back then lacked residential buildings and supermarkets, and had an overabundance of cars and functional buildings - especially fire fighters and police. It's nice for playing, but for me, even back then "city vibes" was more than "pushing police cars over road plates". I grew up in a five-storey building that was squeezed in between other four-to-five-story buildings. Did LEGO offer such buildings in the 90s? To my knowledge, the few residential sets they had were one-storey houses for a sprawling suburbia. And where I lived, there was a one-way road (how to build that back then?) with trees as high as the surrounding buildings, across which was a playground, a kiosk (similar to set 675, but that was not available in the 90s), a phone booth (6613, also from the 80s) and more five to six storey buildings. Also, pigeons. All LEGO had, was parrots, and we already had to be thankful for that.
Today, they offer three-storey townhouses (31097), supermarkets (60347), farms (60346, although I think that 7637 was better) and so on. All kinds of animals, even available on bricks & pieces. All that nice stuff that I would have wanted as a kid.
IMO, the individual sets had more character back then, but it's not like everything was better. Especially compared to the late 80s, the early 90s already were a step backwards in Town (maybe because all the R&D went into Pirates).

exactly what I want to do to my blue 4560/4561 train. Double it and make the engine long instead of dinky! Great work!

Amazing!!!! I literally have at least 15 sets from this collection myself! Just found them in my attic!

I watched the video at 3/4 speed and still had to pause it sever times to take it all in.

Modern Lego City stuff is just oversized and expensive if you ask me. 😂
They should return to these simple designs.

That is one shockingly nice layout you have there! 👍 I particularly like that you've managed to incorporate both a harbor PLUS an airport in the same layout - both extremely space-craving elements for any LEGO layout built for expo. What were the dimensions?
