I've said this for years and I'll say it again.
The US isn't a country, it's a giant corporation.

As a Brit, I’m grateful that we have a safer food standard.

I'm a Brit and I feel angry that the people of America are not getting a fair deal. We should all be entitled to good healthy food. It's all down to corporate greed.

There is a different approach. In Europa an 'additive" has to be proven safe before it can be used. In the USA it has to be proven harmful before it will be forbidden. That's makes a load of difference, also in the type of testing.

Shortbread made in Scotland will have an ingredient list which is the same as you would make at home - flour, butter, sugar, salt. Shortbread made in the US has a huge list of ingredients which seems to be wholly unnecessary if it can be made so simply.

In Europe they put chlorine into swimming pools, in the US they use it as a marinate for chicken 😮
Keep up the good work JJLA, you’ll slowly make the world a better place 👍

I like the fact that if you have a question you go and Google it to find the answer. Every other content creator like yours just says “let me know in the comments below”. 👍

You see a lot of people making the same 3 arguments about the UK, one of which is they don’t season their food. While this is untrue the big difference is because simple fresh ingredients do not need a lot of seasoning to them as you’re not trying to mask the natural taste of those ingredients only enhance it as opposed to American products that need the extra seasoning due to the ingredients being of worse quality and filled with additives that detract from it’s natural flavour profile.

From what I gather, the US prioritises large companies making money over the health of individuals. Where as the UK/EU are happy to restrict large companies and make them use alternatives.

I am aware that certain products are banned in the States and not in the EU. But there does seem to be a case where the US government’s first and foremost consideration is, “Will this cost US companies money?” Rather than consider the impact the products might have on the population.

Glyphosate was mentioned as being used as a weed killer in the USA, possibly causing cancer. Glyphosate is banned as a weed killer in the UK and in Europe.

And we Brits sometimes complain about the stuff that goes into our food.

In countries with universal health cover, the government has to pay if people get sick so they are incentivised to prevent that.

As always another interesting and enlightening video. And hopefully will make some people consider their shopping choices with a little more care. The difference in the number of ingredients on the packaging speaks volumes!

Here in the UK, some of the recent moves to try and encourage healthier eating actually banned advertising takeaways and junk food near schools. So no more bus stop ads outside the local school. And the other that I remember stopped supermarkets putting sweets on the checkouts, to help parents avoid them more easily when waiting at the till. Little steps but they help.

The deadliest thing about the USA isn't the guns, the shootings, the serial killers, the lawsuits and the lack of accessible healthcare. It's the food.

Really enjoy your videos mate, the best in your field with respect to the content. The little things, like a quick Google search, easily done, and certainly it adds credibility to your commentary. And I would also say a big thank you, because my appreciation for our safety and health standards has certainly improved!! Sad that these same standards are so dire in the States, but at least you are now aware and knowledgeable, hopefully your content reaches a lot of Americans :-)

Here in the UK - despite our frequent grumbles about it (unlike North Korea, the UK ain't perfect) - we DO get things right occasionally!

In the UK, adverts targeting children are not allowed to sell high fat/sugar foods.
McDonalds therefore advertise the toys and fruit bags on children's tv.
Also, have you noticed how US TV has almost 10 minutes of adverts per half hour? ours is almost half that.
