Saul/Paul | Bible Story

He's a man with two names. To the Jews he was called Saul, to the Romans he was known as Paul. He thought he was the hero in this story, but he turned out to be the villain. It took him losing his sight to see for the very first time. Are you willing to open your eyes?

"Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'"

"The whole time I thought I was the good guy...I thought I was doing what you (God) wanted!" Great line. How many times do well-meaning people do what they think is right in their own eyes or in the eyes of the world? Many times these same people don't even KNOW that they need to be forgiven of "sins." They don't know what sins ARE, even. As Christians, we must be patient as we help others open their hearts and eyes to the truth. I believe this is why Stephen could ask God to forgive those who persecuted him, even as he was being stoned to death. I also believe this is why Jesus asked the same of the Father, God. "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Luke 23:34. Jesus reminds us in so many ways that as we teach, we must do so humbly. We are ALL in need of a Savior (even those who don't yet know it or don't yet know that Jesus is the answer). Thank you for this wonderful depiction of Saul / Paul's story!
