Oklahoma Earthquakes And The Rise In Fracking

The earth is shaking in Oklahoma, and it’s far from normal –– a recent study by Cornell University and the U.S. Geological Survey has linked the state's exponential spike in earthquakes with a surge in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. Imran Garda talks to worried Oklahomans and gets a behind-the-scenes look at how the chemical-laced water required to frack is disposed of.

Fracking is the cause of the homeless crises because the micro surface quakes are destroying the foundations of buildings in a much bigger area as currently thought and admitted by the operators. The vibration also erode shore lines and cause cracks on highways!

It's no surprise that the oil companies won't talk to him. He has no idea what he is even talking about. Why would they give him the time of day when he doesn't understand what is going on? There is so much science going into these operations that it's tough for the layman to understand what is going on and thus they are easily scared and swayed by these videos.

So what is it, fracking or injection wells because they are two different things, the waist water is from a producing well, fracking is what they do to help a well produce, everyone uses the word fracking when they have no idea what it is

This whole video is just meant to scare people. They have all these shots of water on the ground like every well site is leaking all over the surface when in reality they just went out there after it rained. This guy doesnt even know what fracking is. The wastewater comes up with the oil. It has nothing to do with what they are putting in the ground to frack with. They reuse the fracking stuff because it costs money. When they pull oil out of the ground though, water comes up too. People don't realize that these rocks aren't just reservoirs for oil, but reservoirs for any sort of fluid and gas that can be underground. So when they pull out the oil and water comes with it, they have to do something with the water, and because its high in dissolved solids, you can't just water your crops with it. So they drill injection wells deep into the earth. Deeper than any other well by thousands of feet, and simply pump water down there. The water came from the ground, and then it goes back in the ground. It's not some man made hazardous liquid used in fracking. Even a conventional oil well that is never fracked can produce water. That water is then injected back into the ground where it came from.

At least here in Victoria Australia the State Government has banned Fracking. USA is all about money, Corporate Profit. Australia cares more for Citizens.

He's trying to act like it's corrupt that mineral rights and land rights are different in Oklahoma. It's not like the oil and gas companies are the only people that can buy mineral rights. When the land was first opened up in Oklahoma. The original land owners owned both. Over time, people sell mineral rights just like they sell land. It's not like the oil companies come in and steal all the oil underneath you. If you own the mineral rights, they pay you for it. If you don't and you only own the land. They pay you for your land use and theypayed whoever owns the minerals for the mineral use.

It is sad and wrong when people are forced to pay a price or their environment is damaged because of decisions that a company is making for monetary gain. On the one hand economics does come into play when energy companies try to figure out new ways to create energy but on the other hand it is as far as i know economically viable and morally better to use and invest in clean energy that doesn't have these negative side effects.

And yes... illegal dumping happens. It's wrong and it sucks. It's also illegal and, when caught, they get punished. The driver should report this dumping site to the EPA or the OCC.
