How to connect Zwift Sensors - Garmin Ant+ and Panobike Bluetooth

This video explains how to set up your speed and cadence senors for riding on Zwift using the Zwift Mobile link app. Here I review the Garmin speed and cadence sensor and the Topeak Panobike Bluetooth speed and cadence sensor.

I paid roughly $45 CAD for the Topeak Panobike Speed and Cadence sensor. The Ant+ Garmin Speed and Cadence sensors compare at roughly $80 CAD. Adding an Ant+ USB dongle bumps the cost up even further by about $40.

I hope this content helps you get started on Zwift or Trainer Road or Sufferfest or whatever you may be using the sensors for.

One other point worth mentioning, is that Bluetooth pairs with one device only and is then exclusive to that paired device. Whilst Ant+ simply broadcasts and can then be picked up by any device that is capable of receiving an Ant+ signal. Typically this difference is irrelevant for a home user, but Ant+ can be useful if you want to connect to a simulator and a device that is collecting your ride data at the same time.

Did you need to download anything onto your Mac to get the suunto ANT+ stick to work? I have the same one but Zwift isn't recognizing it

Great video. Far better than one made by Zwift. I have a question for you though. Do I need a iphone, for the bluetooth setup?

Nice video! Pretty much my set up with my Garmin sensors. Wondering if you experienced issues with the speed that was displayed by Zwift versus what's on your Garmin. On climbs, Zwift was telling me that I'm moving at 8 KPH while on my Garmin, I'm already at 33 KPH. Thanks!

With Bluetooth I had continual problems with connectivity. Using the graph feature on Zwift I could see the connection briefly dropping. Sometimes it would drop completely and leave me stopped on the side of the road. I would have to type A to re-pair connections. I installed an ANT+ dongle in my laptop and the connectivity has been great ever since. I'm using Wahoo Speed/Cadence and Heart-rate sensors. They do both Bluetooth and ANT+.

Explanation of the Bluetooth problems: competing Wifi signals from neighboring houses. The bike sensors transmit to the cellphone. The cellphone to the Wifi router. The Wifi router to the laptop. The laptop to Zwift. Using a Wifi monitor, we could see the competing signals rising and falling in strength. Sometimes they would knock my Wifi signal briefly offline. We installed a stronger router and moved it closed to the trainer. Tried to control the channels. Still problems.

Extension costs $6 and install and leave it. Sounds like a great option. ANT+ with extension is way to go

i had a lot of trouble with ant +, so i switched to bluetooth for all sensors. i use the wahoo kickr and i took my garmin cadence sensor off because it is only anti + and now i use the wahoo cadence sensor which use bluetooth. now i don't get interference on my rides and lose my wattage and rpm signals.

Does the laptop need Bluetooth capability(internal or usb stick) when using mobile app and BT sensors? i have all Wahoo sensors run BT to android. it sounds like i need to load zwift mobile link app and set up account on my laptop. do i need to get a BT dongle for the laptop?
