What if we told you that you could turn milk into plastic — right at home? 🧪🥛
In this short video, Maynard Okereke walks you through a fun, science-based DIY to create bioplastic using simple ingredients like milk, vinegar, and baking soda. With 98% of single-use plastics made from fossil fuels, this eco-friendly hack shows how bioplastics could help reduce plastic waste and dependence on petroleum. You’ll learn how the casein protein in milk reacts to vinegar, and how this reaction has actually been used since the early 1900s to make buttons and other everyday items!

Interesting video :)
Recent study says we have a plastic spoon worth of plastic in our brains. Maybe it’s not just to learn our impact on our environment but also ourselves..

As someone allergic to dairy I hope they don't use that as food packaging in the future. I hope they stick to looking at plant based alternatives.

Unless we can synthesize casein (or a similar protein for plastic-making) from plants, producing plastic from casein will not help the environment. Cows produce methane, which is a greenhouse gas.

Interesting but can't the " plastic" dried casein dissolve in water ?

Yeah let's replace plastic by more milk (thus methane producing cows) thst eill dure fix everything. Unless able to make this compound from something other than milk it will be a bad replacement for plastic

Is this like Bakelite? Is that what you’re referencing from the last century?
