Unsolved Japan: The Kofu UFO Incident

On the 23rd of February 1975, winter was coming to an end in Japan, and the skies over Kofu city, Yamanashi prefecture, were calm and clear. Two young elementary-school students were one their way home from an evening outside, when they spotted something unusual in the sky that would change their lives forever. This is the true, unsolved mystery of the Kofu UFO Incident.

If kids are so afraid of something they hide in a graveyard for hours after dark, I believe they had to have seen something truly unknown and scary that made the graveyard feel safe in comparison.

It's really funny to imagine if these aliens were benign and just lost - so the one outside of the craft goes to a local to ask for directions - who then promptly falls over and plays dead - leading the alien to circle around him in a panic like ohhh noo I got us lost and now killed one of the young ones!! jerry is gonna kill me!

As one who has many years of experience working on Japanese farms, I can assure you, they absolutely positively would not be working at night spraying anything. These guys are serious about safety and will pack up and be on their way before dark. Me being from the US and always worked after dark would often tell them, "We can finish this last bit in a few minutes. Let's just get it done!" But would always be met with a strong and shocking "NO!" Then they would always tell me how dangerous is it to work without proper visibility. I'm quite certain they did not see a farm truck or workers in the dark.

When the UFO leaves, the description makes it sounds like it's immediately going at near light speed. The blinking is from going so fast, much like a fan spinning around, and it appearing to be shrinking is it just moving away that fast, and not necessarily locally; could be moving through space in a way that we almost couldn't comprehend.

the description of the "beings" reminds me of how the creatures were described in the Pascagoula (mississippi) ufo incident, which is a very fascinating and highly convincing case. both were described as having brown wrinkled skin and 3 protuberences from the head (and other similarities)... also, the Pascagoula incident was october 11th 1973, just a year and 4 months before this one...

I'm guessing (from reading about events similar to this) that whatever is actually happening, is difficult for our brains to process. So we look for familiarity, something that we can process, and end up with witness statements like this. Some matching, some different. Also, the symbols on the craft, again, it's like trying to read words in a dream. The letters are feint, scattered and jumbled, but you still recognise them as words.

This brings to mind the infamous Belgium UFO sighting, one of the first major sightings of a "triangle UFO" - a Belgian police officer witnessed the huge triangle shrink into a small light before flying away, just as the UFO in this story did.

Never heard of this case until recently, fascinating how well documented it is and how many different witnesses were involved who saw somewhat similar but in other ways divergent UFOs and entities. I am quite fascinated by ufology and other Forteana from non-Western countries that has remained behind various language barriers until recently, so I greatly welcome a video like this.

Like you, I knew of the incident but never was aware of the details and corroborating evidence. I applaud your work and professional production here. The UFO cases involving school children are interesting because of their sheer honesty. Yes, I agree their description of the beings would be drawn from their favorite TV shows because that’s where their comparative memories would draw from. This is very compelling as are the similar cases like the 1966 Melbourne AU school case, and the Zimbabwe 1994 school case; and a few more. More please, well done!
