as someone that lives in a chinese speaking country (Taiwan) I can guarantee you this is very much on point.
You never refer to anyone outside your birthmother as mother, and you're not supposed to refer to any older woman as anything but "jie jie" (big sister) unless they're visibly elderly, in which case you call them "ayi" (auntie)

In Chinese culture normally we refer to our elders who look considerably young as "big sis" rather the mom esp if there is no consent from the guardian to do so and disrespectful for your actual parents. Normally "big sis" is used for stiuations like Chun LI here
