Women of Iran

What gives today's women and their allies such courage to risk life and liberty protesting on the streets of Iran? It is many things, including a universal sense of injustice and increasing desperation, but in this case it is also their suppressed history of equal rights and traditions that honor women in all walks of life. Hardly universal, these unique traditions of equality were quite remarkable in a region where women were usually seen as lesser beings. But the culture of the Persian kingdoms (Achaemenid, Seleucid, Parthian, Sassanian) held that women could rule, own property, marry who they pleased, run businesses, and serve in the military.

Learn of the fighting spirit of Youtab in the Battle of the Persian Gate, or the fierce rebellions led by Apranik and Banu Khorramdin! Hear of the medical advances advocated by Azadokht Shahbanu and the business empire ruled by Irdabama! The women of Iran have spent millennia in positions of honor and power. Today they demand a return to the old ways.

What a wonderful topic! Fascinating and so appropriate given the circumstances. It adds so much depth of meaning to know that modern Iranian Women are the Daughters of such an incredibly strong heritage of female emancipation and independance. Bravo to the channel`s team for giving us this video. May the spirit of all these amazing Women guide the Iranian people to the freedom they want and deserve. ✌

Absolutely view changing perspective for me, and I must say that I had no idea that even the slaves were treated like that.

Iranian never called themselves PERSIAN. It was the Roman and Greek call them based on Iranian capital, PARS. Kurd, Lur, Azari and etc, are all Iranian or ARYAN. So please don't get confused. We don't have Persian ethnic group in IRAN. Azari people by Turk rulers forced to give up their mother toung, Persian language. This didn't change the race of Azari to Turk. Thanks.😊

When you say year dates, can you post them on the screen. It's hard to visualize When you're rattling off verbal dates one after the other

A huge paradox and irony how alt far right Nazis think Aryan means blonde hair and blue eyes, the “white race”, yet blue eyes originated in Siberia Asia, brought to Scandinavia by the nomadic Proto Finnish, indigenous Sámi and Estonians, while blue eyes originated in the Middle East, the cradle of white people, brought to Europe by the 1st humans; Western Hunter Gatherers who had dark skin, black hair and blue eyes. Aryan is and has always meant and been Persian.

How the women of Iran today probably wish they could go back to the equality they had back then.

Great episode let’s see a phonecian/canannite/carthagr like this but with as much artifacts as possible … some of this ai art is okay when it’s historically accurate but wow when it’s not it’s strange… it’s interesting there were much more blonde people in Iran in the Bronze Age and it shows in their art… wonder if there’s a native trade or marriage to Medes Scythians or hellenes:.. seems mycanean Greeks had the darker hair brown eyes but the Etruscans clearly had people with red blonde and brown hair
