Hyundai's New Affordable EVs Under $30,000! IONIQ 1 and More!

Korea’s mission for EV dominance is pretty aggressive if you haven’t noticed already. Hyundai is trying to take the lead in the EV market, by putting itself through massive changes in the transition to become an EV exclusive company from a legacy automaker, giving up everything that they have built up in its rather turbulent history. Just as soon it has dug itself out of being an automaker with a poor reputation for shoddy quality and performance, Hyundai didn’t hesitate to forgo on all of its glory that it has attained in recent years, to become an exclusive EV maker with the focus on battery electric as well as hydrogen fuel cell electric.
To accomplish this, the Korean automaker has developed the state of the art EGMP electric platform to jump-start its aggressive EV program, focused on providing the most advanced EVs in the market, but Hyundai isn’t forgetting about the bulk of the population, the same group of people that helped the company to grow, that can’t and won’t spend exorbitantly high price to join in on the game.
In this episode of Auto Vision, we will explore the EV options that would become available to Average Joe that would not spend over $30,000, or a price of an average ICE vehicle, for purchase of a new car.

I'm so impressed by Hyundai's aggressive revolution. I find myself being drawn to their design, quality, and engineering more than any other car maker today. The Ionic 5 has already set new benchmarks for EVs. If this is any indication of their trajectory, Hyundai's future will be mind-blowing.

I already drive a Kia Niro EV. and prior to that drove a Hyundai Kona EV. They are both outstanding cars that have now been superseded by the EV6 and the Ionic 5. The build quality is outstanding and the warranty is world leading, but the markets growing fast and a smaller cheaper car for the average chap is necessary if all are to dump the pump. The Koreans are definitely a manufacturer to contend with, who now make reliable cars and I think will give VW and Tesla a run for their money.

I like the price range of the smaller EVs, but driving range would have to be greater for me to actually purchase one of the EVs.

I really hope that Hyundai/Kia use their brains and take the initiative to bring even more affordable EVs than the Kona and Niro with around 300 miles of range to the US market in 2022 and 2023. VW made a drastic error in not addressing that huge market opportunity with the ID3--and the Bolt from Chevy just isn't on the same quality level.

I’m so excited if this is really going to happen. Since I leased my ‘21 Venue, I’ve always said the only thing that would make this car better is electrification. I hope this happens in 2023 so when my lease is up, I can make the switch.

I live in Western Australia, so range is a big factor. However, these cheaper options are an excellent choice for young people who often don’t need to travel long distances.

Not all of us need a large car. There is only myself and my wife and our longest drive nowadays would be about 40 miles each way. So a small EV would suit us.

Hyundai and Kia should also focus on Sodium ion Battery tech. Sodium ion offers the same energy density as LFP while being 15-20% cheaper. This should allow them to reduce the cost of even more

In answer to your question, NO. But I will NOT buy a larger electric SUV until the price comes down to below $40K. They are far simpler to build and manufacture and should cost a fraction of what the far more complex ICE vehicles cost to build. I'll wait until they stop treating me like an idiot!
