Met ‘House of Sugar’ bracht Alex Giannascoli als (sandy) Alex G een van de meest gewaardeerde indieplaten van vorig jaar uit. Een album vol experimentele violen van zijn vriendin Molly Germer, slaapkamerfolk en sprookjesachtige teksten. Met een decennium aan steeds breder uitgebrachte albums, van eigen beheer tot Domino Records, is (sandy) Alex G het schoolvoorbeeld van een Bandcamp-artiest die zonder zijn eigen geluid te verliezen de weg naar indie sterrendom heeft gevonden. Wij spraken hem over tien jaar aan muziek, de sprookjesachtige teksten van ‘House of Sugar’ en hoe hij tegenwoordig met een iets betere laptop en microfoon rondreist om zijn muziek te kunnen maken.

Alex lyrics became much more meaningful along the years, you can see how he's able to manipulate the abstract thoughts he had earlier in his career much easier now. Some good examples are Southern Sky, Walk Away, those lyrics touch me so deeply, I wish he could see what his music means for me.
