If you ever worked outdoors in the wintertime, you wrap backwards from your neck around your head with the ends ending in the front. Crisscross them and do not tie. The scarf should lay flat in front underneath your jacket. It will look like a turtle neck from the front.

I think we call that the Elle McPherson knot here - she sort of popularized it.
