I’m convinced nobody watches Luka play rn. He’s been a pretty ass defender his first few years but he’s definitely stepped it up. And not just cuz of the steals but that is part of it cuz he’s a lot more active in the lanes. He’s also a lot more disciplined than before at moving his feet to cut off drives. He’s not lockdown but not a liability anymore

i think overall defense is less emphasized in the league as its become a track meet for offense...so players get away with being one sided...but i think lukas defense is a little underrated because he has in the past year and a half made an effort to play defense...hes evolving

Luka is not bad defensively he is an average defender at worst hes better defensively than Trae Ja Dame etc why not call them for their defense they are worse defenders than Luka hmm

Magic Johnson wasn't much of a defender he just played in an era where the spacing on the floor was tighter, the game was played inside the 3pt line and there wasn't these extreme clear the floor isolations where one defender can get exposed.

But just because Magic would qualify as a less complete player by this definition was he less impactful than Kawhi or Gary Payton.

Also Luka isn't attacked just because he's a bad defender, Luka is average but opposing team's strategy is to make players that carry offenses like that work.

Anyone's defensive stats will look worse if they're being picked on in pick and roll.
