When something incredibly hot comes across something cold, or super cold, it's gonna shatter, same with cold. It's called thermal shock.

This is because while the whole glass is cool and contracted, pouring boiling water will cause the outside to expand and since both the sides of the glass are mving in different ways the pressure build-up leads to cracks

It cracks because of thermal shock, when there is a drastic change in temperature thats because outside when pouring the water the glass expands where inside induces stress in the material

Use a spray bottle with half isopropyl alcohol and room temperature water. The results will surprise you by not breaking the glass but the ice instead!!

For people who don't know, pouring hot water will lead to the topmost layer of glass to expand (thermal expansion) This expansion is most likely to break the glass thus use of normal water is suitable in this case.

Grab a plastic bag and pour warm water in it. Softly slide it across the ice and it melts. Cold water just makes another icy layer.

If you use very hot water on very cold glass it will shatter never subject glass to sudden temperature changes it'll break when glass is made its cooled very gradually by a process called annealing

I do that all the time.
Just don't use boiling hot water. Lukewarm is good enough.
And don't overdo it.

Cold to hot will destabilize the glass and create cracks just use warm or mildly cold water or just cold water works aswell if u have thick ice remove it slow and nm make sure no shard falls in perhaps it will even be satisfying

Luke warm to cool works fine. Ive never used hot water for this ever.

70-90 volume rubbing alcohol works great on frozen windshield. That's what I use. Works great.

If you don’t want to use cold water then you can use kind of warm water. It still has to be around the temperature of that actual ice so you don’t break your glass.

I use isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. You can leave it in your car, and it doesn't freeze.

Defrost window with water is not problem basicly. Do it with room teemperature water, not with hot. A little bit more time, but worth it.
