SpaceX's Polaris Dawn crew has returned to Earth after five days in orbit.

The historic mission featured the world's first commercial spacewalk by billionaire Jared Isaacman.

The Dragon capsule made splashdown off the coast of Florida shortly after 03:37 local time (07:37 GMT), in an event stream lived by SpaceX.

"Splashdown of Dragon confirmed! Welcome back to Earth," SpaceX said on social media platform X.

The US space agency Nasa said the mission represented "a giant leap forward" for the commercial space industry.

Jared Issacman has a degree in aeronautical engineering, qualified in multiple military Jets and led the team, not a rookie, not token. BBC, get it right.

The comments here are either hating on Elon Musk (and hating the BBC for supposedly liking him) or praising him and getting mad at the BBC for not mentioning him despite him not being the one who went to space (I know he owns SpaceX but he's not doing all the the work like the scientists). Can't we just be happy in this country for once? It's a historic event! I swear this country gets weirder by the day and probably more miserable.

Now the conspiracy theorists can no longer say that it is impossible to cross the Van Allen belts; they just did it on purpose!

As more and more space missions progress, let these images never become so visually normal that we forget what is so stunningly Abnormal in relation to that deep dark lonely universe: Earth🌍💖

Sunny Williams, Indian women of Indian ethnicity from India, jinxed her entire team AGAIN. Kalpana Chawla, the first woman of Indian (India) origin to go to space. She was part of the crew on the Space Shuttle Columbia, which disintegrated upon re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere on February 1, 2003, resulting in the death of all seven astronauts on board.
