Depending on what role you are interviewing for that works with nexus, here are some critical items to be prepared for (I have interviewed dozens for Nexus roles):
- First and foremost - an in-depth understanding of the FUNDAMENTALS of networking. Not Nexus specific, understand what packet headers *should* look like at each hop for a particular flow in a network and why. Detailed L2/L3 fundamentals. It is hard to trust someone is really qualified when they cannot get into the weeds of basic networking, regardless of their experience or how their resume looks.
- How specific can you get about how a network device performs lookups on a packet? How/when does a router/switch determine whether to route/switch a packet?
- What is a control-plane, data-plane, management plane? How do they interact with eachother?
- What is an ASIC and what's the advantage?
- What is a glean packet?
- What is CoPP? How to indicate a problem?
- What does high CPU mean on a Nexus platform?
- What is oversubscription?
