In this weeks video we look at the ft817 and see if it has that wining sound has gone.
All ive done is plugged it into the main power supply in the shack and flicked the switch a couple times between SP and PH.
Ive also got some desktop speakers to try if we get a wining sound on the radio.

Nice one.
Electronics have a mind of their own.
You could be right, a problem with speaker/head phone jack or the switch.
Only test left is batterys again.
But I don't think your going to have a problem this time.
Glad you got it working.

I had that problem once when using headphones, the connection was not quite broken at the connector and I got that effect with some sort of feedback. It might also have been the connector on the extension speaker did not close properly if you removed a plug from it. Anyway, it is sorted.

I have the same switching power supply, well at least an early vintage of it. I found noise coming from the switching power supply. On mine there is a knob to shift the switching frequency of the power supply hoping to move it from the frequency your listening to, but in general I found it not good for HF. No problem with VHF/UHF because the harmonics of the switcher reduce as you go up in frequency not noticeable.

Strange isn't it.. Have you tested it on just battery power back at your QTH? 73's

Good news. I think its behaving because its on the PSU. Maybe you have a dodgy battery pack?
