Every cup from anywhere close to that era would be called the holy grail by the owner. ‘Holy’ relics have been one of the biggest scams in human history: wood from the original cross, wood from the ark, nails from the cross, etc. etc. There is no way to ever trace things back to if one person touched them or not, unless they had their DNA on it. Most of them that still exist are just linked to creative stories about how they came into the person’s possession. I doubt someone grabbed Jesus’s cup as a souvenir and said “I better keep this, it might be worth something some day.”

I read from somewhere that the Holy Grail was not actually a cup, but a bowl or dish when it was first described by Chrétien de Troyes.

At 8:56 the newspaper headline refers to the theft of the Nanteos Grail in 2014. The Cup was mysteriously returned in 2015 and from 2016 it was put on public display in the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, where it remains to this day. In 2017 it was briefly taken to Strata Florida abbey where it was shown to Prince Charles (now king) and in March 2024 it was taken to the Welsh Parliament building (Senedd) in Cardiff for a few days. It's back in the National Library now.
