this sound is in my native langauge filipino
heres an example:
the word for type, "anyo" has that sound being represented by ny
other examples include:
ny in "ninyo"
ñ in the surname Ordoñez
and many more

I feel like I'm missing something here... as far as I can tell I'm doing the same thing with my mouth as drawn in the cartoon, but it doesn't seem to make the "y" sounding part at the end unless I deliberately pronounce an approximant afterwards.

I'm native portugues speaker, "nh" part of the portugues grammar doesn't pronounce like spanish "ñ" sound never at least as far as I know. I think that applies small number of cases of the dialects.

OHHHH try blocking your nostrils and pronounce "annual", if you find it difficult then its because you're trying to pronounce the ɲ but the nasal is
