10 Best Amphibian Airplanes to Buy

Let’s start by clearing some misconceptions, floatplanes are not seaplanes, and not all seaplanes are amphibious airplanes. These terms have different meanings, a seaplane is built around a single hull which serves as the plane’s floating body and fuselage, and it takes off from and lands on its belly, for example, the Icon A5. On the other hand, for a floatplane, instead of a hull that can land on water, a floatplane has floats that serve as the surfaces to land on and take off from, for example: Cessna 206 Stationair. Meanwhile, the term amphibious aircraft refers to airplanes that can land both on land and water surfaces.

The Cessna 185. A true work horse on amphibians floats.

I just noticed the click screen again and remembered my first plane ride - in a Piper PA-11 on floats, an emotional favourite.

Not one mention of the Cessna Caravan Amphibian, the Twin Otter amphibian, The Grumman Mallard (my personal favorite), the Sikorsky S-38 (that one is GORGEOUS), or the Republic SeaBee 😞.

you're confusing flying boats and seaplanes, flying boats have a boat like fuselage, both floatplanes and flying boats are seaplanes... both flying boats and floatplanes can be amphibious

Honestly wish there were more flying boats around that had capacity for more than a handful of passengers or a a single ton of cargo. Had an idea in mind for a niche business delivering cargo and/or workers to remote mines or settlements in Alaska or similar via flying boat to save on infrastructure costs, but there just aren't very many of the appropriate planes out there. Really, the only amphibian with the right combination of size and availability would be a Twin Otter. A Grand Caravan could maybe be shoehorned in, but they're just a little on the small side.

Is the Seamax M22 still in production?

The only really affordable seaplane is the Lake series--in the 200hp version.

The Russian SeaBear--with the right engines would be amazing.

A seaplane lands on its fuselage that is designed like a boat hull. A floatplane lands on floats that are exchanged for its landing gear.

Use this principle on the high speed air craft carrier can fligh 10 m above sea level can get 300-500 miles / hour possible response to international emergency in less than 24 hours with enough punch of air power to talk

Wrong - in the air, they are all Seaplanes. When they land on the water, they split into Flying Boats or Float Planes. Flying boats are true boats - they have a hull, rudder, and bilge pumps. Flying boats are essentially boats that can fly and likely have very few restrictions on the water. Float planes generally are restricted in the water. Otherwise, nice video.

The term seaplane is not reserved for flying boats. Float planes are seaplanes.

The MVP seems to have died, as nowhere could I find any information on it in the last few years. It looked perfect for what I like to do (long range, somewhat random touring), but might have tried to be to many things at the same time.

An aircraft not mentioned, but undergoing test flights right now, is the Wave, by Vickers Aircraft. It seems to be about to deliver it's first units early in 2023, and to me looks a lot like the A5 at half the price. I rather like it and am keeping tabs on the company as best I can.
(Note: Grew up as a youth in New Zealand, and Vickers is a NZ based company.... so biased perhaps?)

Personally I'd go for a DeHavilland Beaver like the ones in the opening scenes.

What a total joke, nothing was said about the PA-18, Cessna 180 or 185 or the DHC-2 Beaver and the list go on and on

This was not a list of the 10 best amphibian airplanes to buy. With the exception of the C-206, this was a list of toys. I'd take a Super Cub or a C-185 over all of them. By the way, the C-206 on floats does not fly at 160 mph. More like 140-145 mph. It's like you know nothing about seaplanes.
