For those of you who have attended our regular 'Introduction to the Third Demand: What are citizens' assemblies?' talk, join us for this 'deeper dive' to expand your understanding of citizens' assemblies.

Citizens' assemblies (CAs) may be gaining in popularity, but they are not new and they certainly were not invented by XR! So where else have CAs taken place, what were they about, and how successful were they?

Join the Citizens' Assembly Working Group (CAWG) to learn about various CAs all over the world from Gdansk in Poland, to Oregon in the US, to French, Scottish, and UK-wide citizens' assemblies on climate. What worked, what didn't work, what lessons can we learn? Come and find out!

Covered in this talk:
- Basic standards of a citizens' assembly
- Climate Assembly UK
- Scotland's Climate Assembly
- The French Citizens’ Climate Convention
- The Citizens' Dialogue in East Belgium
- Bogota Itinerant Citizens’ Assembly, Colombia
- Local citizens' assemblies in Gdansk, Poland
- Australia's first Citizens' Parliament
- The Oregon Citizens’ Initiative Review, USA
- The Global Assembly
- The Climate and Ecology Bill (UK specific)

From September 10th we will come together in London and make the demand for climate action impossible to ignore.

1. Tell The Truth
2. Act Now
3. Beyond Politics

Since MPs and local councillors ignore me why would a CA achieve things by approaching their local councillors and MPS? It’s the system that needs changed totally.

I can’t really understand, where the govt has control overall, whether the citizens assemblies are effective in achieving anything really. Would be interested in seeing what HAS BEEN actually achieved as a result of CA’s. Even if they are visible to everyone it could simply be propagandising for the governments. A commitment to listening does not mean action will be taken until the parliamentary electoral system is mended IMO

Scientifically and technologically, a prosperous sustainable future is possible. Sacrifice of economic welfare is not necessary to sustainability. There are no 'Limits to Growth' because resources are not a fixed quantity. Resources are a function of the energy available to develop them, and there is a huge and inexhaustible source of heavy duty clean energy in magma.

I have much more to say on this, but I'm not going into lengthy explanations of past research, application of the technology, and the geopolitics and economics of the matter unless asked. Suffice to say I do not support national 'net zero' policies achieved through the imposition of regressive price and tax rises to suppress demand; not merely because it won't work, but also because the burden will fall most heavily on the least well off!

What is a fair contribution/amount for the UK to reduce carbon emissions' proportionality, to what is produced globally, including all production/freight to and from the UK, contributing globally to stay below +1.5 C

I would have thought this reduction/announcement ("UK enshrines new target in law to slash emissions by 78% by 2035") however what governments promise, are very rarely delivered.

And of course, what are The UK’s worldwide vested interest totalling in fossil fuel production, is something of a different mater.

And lastly, it is now beyond our Earth collectively to keep temperatures below +1.5 C, because 470 ppm and beyond of atmospheric CO2 is now a forgone conclusion.

I call on you, those who agree with the sentiments of righteousness, those who don't have a scooby doo & those who don't give a shite about this planet, electric cars will lay more waste to this planet, petrol & diesel is bad & breathing in car fumes is blighting our health, but not as bad as electric cars & if we don't do something soon, we will need another planet, whether you like it or not, care or not, there will be total anarchy & complete breakdown in social order if there is irreversible ecological damage, our spirit cannot permit this outcome, suicide is against our moral discipline, this is not an option to willfully allow the destruction of the Ark planet Earth 🌎, the last Sebastian carrying Soul survivors!.

Judging by the governments Australia has elected since 2009 one would conclude the Australian CA was either a failure or ignored. Australian governments since that date have allowed vested corporate interests to lead the country to the bottom percentile of taking action on the climate and environment crisis. It continues, but this latest government is a tiny chink of light. Thank goodness for Fireproof Australia and Blockade Australia. The aforementioned movements light the touchpaper, and the population will respond positively. When that happens the expectation is CAs will be recognised as a key pathway from the present into the future.
