I don't know how efficient it is. But I've been doing mostly whisper dungeons. Good XP from dungeons, good XP (now) from the whisper, and it's things I'd want to run anyway for renown once I can safely do WT3.

You need to have completed certain steps of the quest from this season to even click a heart. just skipping the campaign and going straight into the tunnel is (probably?) possible, but you wont be able to click the hearts that drop, when the enemy dies - which is needed for them to spawn again, in a (slightly) more powerful version, that then drop a heart when killed.

If you progress far enough in the season quest you can craft varshads invoker, this can be used to summon a boss that has a chance to drop 2 hearts.
to craft that staff you need one of each color of the other invokers.
So, farm hearts -> salvage hearts -> buy random invokers (in hope to get a black one), use the other ones to make varshads invoker, go to the tunnels where there's a door behing a yellow glow (with enough quest progress you can enter there, when the tunnels task is completed) and you can fight varshard and ... yeah. loot.

Important Note:
If you do not have the option to craft "Invoker of Varshan", after completing the quest line, go back to WT2, clear the first half, search for a wooden door in front of the healing well.
Go in there and kill the boss. Now you should have the recipe to craft the invoker for WT3. (no idea about WT4, not there yet)
