Introducing the Ten Frame

This video shows a ten frame and gives tips on how to instantly recognize how many chips are in the ten frame. The goal with this type of exercise is the ability to subitize digits to 10. That is, the ability to instantly recognize small quantities, often by using their relationship to 10. This skill becomes important later when adding numbers that sum to more than 10.

If you ever tried to teach my child this method, they would be home-schooled. Please take your 10 Frame and Common Core math somewhere else and leave it out of the American classroom. Dumbing down math does not make it any easier to comprehend; it just confuses the issue and makes our kids not able to compete in the global marketplace for jobs in industry, science, etc.
