Three crew members have been killed in a Houthi missile strike on a cargo ship off southern Yemen, US officials have said.

This is the first deaths the group's attacks on merchant vessels have caused.

The Barbados-flagged True Confidence had been abandoned and was drifting with a fire on board after the strike.

It was hit at about 11:30 local time (08:30 GMT), the US military said.

The Houthis say their attacks are to support the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

I like how you didn't mentioned india, since Indian Navy was first on the scene and rescued 21 crew members. Posting half baked news??

Why do they keep on underestimating these people and just tell ships to stay off…

Did the Houthis literally mistake the Liberian flag on the ship for an American flag? They ARE pretty similar.

BBC can you explain why you did not tell who rescued cargo members

Liberian ship without a single Liberian but Philippino nationals, looks like the owner hiding behind the Liberian flag

It seems some companies are still forcing their employees to that route despite the risk

It is height of irresponsibility to keep sending cargo ships through that area until things come down. The company is guilty of endangering the life of its employees, the crew, by sending them though that area.
