In the last four years we’ve had three live service multiplayer games based on super hero properties (one of them had Spiderman as a playable character on PlayStation systems) none of them did well and were notoriously received badly. Based on gaming trends I doubt this would have been the game everyone was expecting it to be. You’re right people would have lost their minds once Insomniac said it was a live service game that they monetized heavily.

I would totally play this game. I wouldn't expect very much from it, due to it being a multiplayer game. Just Spider-Man style combat, different characters with different styles, and a nice big map. I really would love to play this with my best friend. We'd have a blast and a half.

Live service games totally depend on how they decide to monetize them. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that pay to win is basically evil take a game like Warframe, for instance. It's possible to farm everything in game but you also have the option to pay for convenience. A lot of people never invest a cent but the fact people choose to means they have been able to keep updating and adding to the game for over 10 years. The game now has thousands of hours and it's possible to play for completely free (including getting the game) throughout that time.

The issue with Live service games is the degree of monetization, some game developers/publishers push it too far to the point it's useless trying to play because you can not progress unless you pay. Helldivers 2, their monetization is tame compared to other live service games.
