I just did one without an air compressor and it definitely slid on at least as easy as yours did.

The whole point of using the air compressor is that you don’t need the solvent to slide them on. You don’t need the double sided tape either. You don’t even need any tape unless you need to build up the shaft diameter. I just put on a jumbo max grip with the same compressor. No tape, no solvent. 50-60 lbs pressure and it slid on fairly easy

You can take them off with the air compressor too so you can reuse them or sell them

Put a little bit of solvent on the butt slide the tip of the grip on and hit the air it’s way easier.

That's why I like Pure grips, you don't even need tape, just air. Wish they didn't go out of business.

serious question could you burn off tape on a graphite shaft as well or would it damage the material?

You need some ear pro for that, some grips do not blow on well
