Origins of the Ancient Inca | DNA, History and Mythology

The Inca people arrived at Cusco valley and in a few centuries built the Tawantinsuyu, the largest empire in the Americas. The Tawantinsuyu was the cultural climax of 6,000 years of Central Andes civilizations overlapping modern countries of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, the South of Colombia and the North of Argentina and Chile. In contrast with the richness of archaeological and cultural evidence, pre-Columbian history vanishes in time as it intermingles with myths due to the lack of writing systems before the arrival of the European chroniclers.

Very little is known about the Inca origins and some genetic information could help reconstruct part of their history. Unfortunately the mummies and bodily remains of the Inca emperors, worshiped as gods, were burnt and buried in unknown locations due to religious and political persecution by the Christian Conquistadors and Inquisitors, so no direct material remains to study their DNA. "Thus for now, only the genetic analysis of modern families of Inca descent could provide some clues about their ancestors" remarks geneticist Jose Sandoval, first author, working at Universidad de San Martin de Porres at Lima, Peru.

There were two foundational myths for the origin of the Incas before they established themselves in Cusco valley to build their capital city.

One is that Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, considered children of the Sun God and founder parents of the civilization, came from Lake Titicaca about 500 km southwards from the border of North Bolivia and South Peru, more or less the same region where Tiwanaku empire existed a few centuries before.

The first Peruvian and american civilization was the Caral-supe culture, 3500 BCE. Their DNA is the real clue of the Andean population. Thanks for research about my country. Please read María Rostworowski book "La historia del Tahuantinsuyo".

I love this channel - the narrator sounds like he's a fan of William Shatner but is informative too!

There was indeed a *very large* precolumbian historical chronicle! Mayan scribes had been writing codices on birch bark for generations prior to the Spanish occupation. Only three of their kind are known to have survived a vengeful campaign to burn them after they were declared a collective heresy dangerous to indigenous souls. We will never know the scope of history that was destroyed within those codices - but the number set alight is said to have been in the thousands. It's a tragedy akin to the loss of the library at Alexandria.

As Prince Paullu Inca was supposedly buried in a church after becoming a Christian and was the only son of Sapa Inca Huayna Capac to survive the slaughter by Atahualpa Yupanqui of the Topa Inca Panaca and most of the Imperial Family that supported Sapa Inca Huascar, as well as the killings of the Spanish, it could prove possible to recover his DNA and see if there are any male descendants of the several children that he had by various Inca women.

S/o to this channel for showing the Afo Peruvians on that ancient map. Most history channels wouldn't show them or acknowledge them

My grandma is from Ecuador 🇪🇨 she did her DNA before she passed away and we found out she is Inca and Spanish but had higher percentage of Inca. It kinda makes me sick knowing the history. I have been to Ecuador many times as my grandma had dual citizenship, it is gorgeous! I haven’t been back since 2015 but as an adult I want to know more of our history.

What about the mummified children that have been found at high elevations? Aren't those Inca children?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of ancient human remains from mummies to elongated skulls that could/should be tested and compared to this study to see how (and if) they are related to the modern DNA of natives in the area.

Wait, you mean it isn't: " The Inca found the huge foundation stones left by a mega ancient, invisible, lost race of some sort of uber advanced beings, then piled little stones on top, then created myths that made them the Gods" ?
Seriously, thanks for the work you do and the time and study you put into your content.

Every Amerindian, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, originated from an area surrounding the Baikal Lake, in Central Siberia. They were a separate branch of Northern Mongolic people. After arriving in today's American Continent, their languages evolved to form distinct and unrelated families. Anyway, the origin is Asia.

Comes the time in one's life where you look at this stuff and you say I'll never get to see these places unfortunately other than on a screen. You are very lucky to go there at anyone.
