Ask the Experts: Emerging Infectious Diseases What Are They, and How Do We Prepare for Them

Living through the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for the past three years has made it evident how important pandemic preparedness plays in mitigating the effects of emerging diseases. In this workshop, Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad, the founding Director of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch at WRAIR and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University, explains how scientists track, study, and prepare responses (vaccines, treatments) to new pathogens, and highlights how the scientific community responded to recent emerging infectious diseases such as Ebola, Zika, and COVID.
