The winner should get direct access to the playoffs if they are betwenn 7-20th position in their League

It feels like this tournament only made because back in the day they thought "We're gonna make tournament that only League One and League Two teams(also some U21 teams) can participate so they can win at least a tournament cup instead of just league."

English football should invite Celtic sides into the Football League Trophy. I say invite all Scottish Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe, plus a selection of Welsh Premier sides into the Trophy. Imagine games like Aberdeen v Sunderland, or Hibernian V Blackpool, or Inverness CT V Bolton. It would be great cross border banter, and add spice to the season.
I do not support merging the leagues, but I do support cross border cups on top of European and domestic soccer.
