How a U-Boat was Sunk by its TOILET

German submarine U-1206 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was laid down on 12 June 1943 at F. Schichau GmbH in Danzig and went into service on 16 March 1944. The submarine was scuttled on 14 April 1945 after being attacked by British forces after she was forced to the surface by problems arising from a malfunctioning plumbing system.

Honestly, it's not really surprising that this happened. It's also not really rocket science to figure out how to flush it properly. At depth, the pressure outside the sub is much greater than inside. In order to successfully eject waste, a series of valves must be opened in order, to migrate waste through the system and ensure water will not rush in when the final valve is open. If you mess up and open all the valves, you're screwed. Literally just follow the pipes, open and close the valves in order, and you won't have a problem.
