Показать описание
The Hiker Trash Husbands join up with the @OklahomoHiker to enjoy a roughly 6 mile in and out hike on the Ouachita Trail to climb Winding Stair and Rough Mountains.
Winding Stair Mountain, located in southeastern Oklahoma within the Ouachita National Forest, is a rugged and scenic part of the larger Ouachita Mountain range. Rising to about 2,451 feet, its rocky slopes and densely forested landscape are home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, black bears, and numerous bird species. The mountain’s rich pine and hardwood forests give it a lush, green appearance in warmer months, while autumn transforms it into a vibrant display of fall colors.
The mountain is traversed by the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, a 223-mile route that offers challenging hikes through steep ridges and valleys, rewarding adventurers with sweeping views of the surrounding wilderness. Winding Stair Mountain is also a highlight along the Talimena National Scenic Byway, a popular drive that offers stunning overlooks and panoramic views of the region, particularly during the fall season. The area's rugged beauty makes it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking.
Visitors can also enjoy camping and fishing at nearby recreation areas, such as Cedar Lake and Horsethief Springs. The mountain’s diverse habitats provide excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, and the changing seasons create a dynamic environment, from summer's humid warmth to winter's occasional snow. Whether for the adventurous or those seeking tranquil natural beauty, Winding Stair Mountain offers a unique outdoor experience in Oklahoma.
