It wasn't only his drumming/percussion abilities. It was his lyrics and thoughts put into those lyrics.
Highly intelligent and insightful person. He told stories with both his notes and lyrics. Combined with the abilities of Geddy & Alex, all 3 produced a catalog of music that will last forever.

Percussionist extraordinaire, he also wrote most of Rush’s lyrics. Missed more than one can imagine.

Met him in ‘85 briefly after soundcheck. What he did was take drum parts and really spin them in with the yarn of what thenother music had to say. One of the coolest was in “The Pass”. Every section had a similar vibe but Neil added a little more each time through and it crescendoed at the end. He built so much passion and drama into his playing. I think having his lyrical vision behind their songs drove his parts to have a totally different feel. Miss him a lot!

This was a very talented man.
Wrote most of the lyrics, and played the drums like no one I’ve ever seen. Peart was a true professional who was actually a show unto itself. RUSH was never going to be the same on every song. Alex and Geddy have nothing to prove to the fans of RUSH. They put their heart and soul into every performance. A class act that we may never see the likes of this band again. RIP Neil.
