the high aggressive pressing that is now so popular, especially in german teams, was "invented" in this WC thanks to this guy here Manuel Neuer, who let the team push high on the pitch (with gegenpressing). Neuer that year deserved the Ballon D'Or, because he clearly made a difference in this world cup and with Bayern, as he was giving something to his team that other goalkeepers couldn't offer

I saw Neuer the other day as I live in Munich (like him). Guy is massive, also seemed really nice and down to earth, my friend said hi to him (as if they knew each other) and he smiled and said hi back.

2:57 is a text book move.
In the box, GKs are more safeguarded than any others players.
They cannot use their hands or shoulders to protect themselves from contacts and impacts.
That's why they taught to put out their knee, to shield themselves and to intimidate the stryker.
Many GKs almost killed theirselves because they didn't use their knee.
Antti Niemi injury neck is one famous example.

Ref told that Higuain saw and knew Neuer was charging and he still challenged him.
In no way Higuain would had won that ball.
Every decent players out there know if you challenge a charging GK, you accept to be laid down if you're not fast enough.

His save against Benzema was especially impressive - a full power close range shot and he simply blocks it with one hand - and his arm doesn't even move back when being hit by the ball...

Same with a comparable save against Ronaldo that happened a while ago. His arm doesn't bounce back at all

As a german I can say that in 2014 I always had this feeling of being undefeatable due to neuer. You know that if the amazing Defense breaks down you still got the god on the line. I guess Alegria still has a Trauma to this date😂
