Malco ConNext 1/4' Locking Bit Drivers Review

these are the oddly named connext1 and connext2 drivers, they are reasonably nice with acetate handles and dual ball bearing locking mechanisms. the biggest detractor is the fact that are not easy insertion like modern impact drivers but are still ok.

I just ordered these last Thursday night. Coming today. Malco has some well thought out products.
Side note: Catus, I really don’t understand why you don’t have at least 250K subs. Your reviews are honest, informed, educational and interesting. No hype, just real.
Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Thanks for all the content you put out. I know that the subs you do have appreciate all of your hard work. Thank you.

The 2 ball detents is why there's no slop...Malco makes really nice quality tools.. always have... you'll pay a little more but they're worth it...

Every time I see an obscure but plausibly legitimate product on the internet the paper trail always leads to this channel

I finally found the handle I was looking for. I carry a lot of different sizes and types of Hex bits in my work and needed a screwdriver tool that was non-magnetic. I was considering using Wiha or Wera's ESD safe bit handles, but they are a bit pricey and the rubberized handles attract particles and get damaged quickly in harsh environments. Also, their handles are small and hard to apply enough torque for the machine.

Thanks for alerting your followers to a very interesting product. I love your videos and make a practice of closely tracking the release of your videos.

1. Quoting from an Amazon review by Matt: "It's made for 2" power bits or longer. It swallows a 1" bit and leaves about 3/16" sticking out for you to grab with pliers to retrieve it." This limitation might be a concern for some.

2. As of 29Jan2021, the long version is available on Amazon for $10.29, the short one is more unique and interesting to me, but currently unavailable.

3. I think I saw a trick with Craftsman screwdriver handles whereby a box wrench could fit the handle for extra torque. Catus, could you experiment to see if such is possible with the Malco product? Lack of such a feature would not be a deal-killer; simply nice to know.

4. People interested in interchangeable-bit systems able to get into tight spaces should also investigate the US-made tools from Chapman Manufacturing. And no, I am not affiliated with any tool company. I merely take pleasure in pointing fellow enthusiasts toward good products.

I've used them for a few months and enjoy using the with my 5/16 and 1/4 drivers. I even use a 6in milwaukee extention for a little more reach if I need it.

I recently bought the ratchetting driver and the Malco Connext1, I like them both, the only complain I have is that they don't lock the short (straight shank) , 1" magnetic driver bits, but if the bits have that narrow collar, it'll lock perfectly, other than that, I really like using them in my home as well as my shop,

Have you tried the Wera bit drivers? I have several and they lock the bits right in automatically like that cheap one you have. Push up on the collar and the bit will pop out. I love the handles of Wera too. Very comfortable.

As a service to your readers: A potential alternative to the *larger* of the two Malco handles, and possessing much more functionality, is the Wera 051024 Kraftform Kompakt 25 Pouch Set. For that extra functionality you'll pay $29.12 on Amazon. I know from experience that Wera Rapidaptor technology will hold bits firmly, including the 1" variety. For those who need/appreciate the Wera's extra functionality, it is worth nearly triple the price. Generally speaking, for screwdrivers, Wera is the "bees knees." That said, I still think Malco has much to offer with its stubby model. Gonna buy one as soon as I find an online vendor that has it in stock.

Nice! After watching this video I need one of those but it won't accept a 1" bit with a extension so I decided to make my own with a ACE Pro screwdriver and a Hercules bit driver, I posted a video of it if you like to check it out.

Good to see a spate of good tools instead of junky tools like some of the past ones have been (it's good to know bad ones but still). Needed a win haha.

I have the malco ConNext 1 and love it. Works great with those multi colored harbor freight bits you reviewed a while back. I haven't got the stubby yet the collar seems to make it a bit long like you said.

Wera 816R is a pretty good one. It was on sale at Amazon and picked up the set for $27. Thanks.

Would be nice if they licensed the insty-bit QC mechanism as Bosch, Milwaukee, and Diablo did.
