The first thing you need to do to unlock the summoning ability is to get Torrent, your Spectral Steed. If you haven't done that, check out this other video where I tell you how to do it. In case you already have your magical donkey, head back to the Chuch of Elleh site of grace, the one where you can find the Little red riding hood item vendor, then wait until night by resting and you'll meet a new NPC whom I won't spoil for you. Talk to him or her and you'll need to answer whether you can call the spectral steed or not, select that you can, and you will be granted a Spirit Calling Bell and the Lone Wolf Ashes summon.
Before explaining how to summon your spirits there is one important detail, and that is, you must be able to see on your screen this little ghostly icon on your left side of the screen. Why's that? Well, the game says spirits can only be summoned in the vicinity of a rebirth monument. This is a little bit confusing, but I am guessing by rebirth monuments FromSoftware actually means, states of grace and Stakes of Marika that are plenty and abundant in the open world. If you don't have that icon available, you won't be able to summon it, remember that.
Now, how do you use your spirits? It's easy. Bring up your menu, go to the right panel and hover over any slot of your pouch, and select the Switch option. Select the Spirit Calling Bell and set it in any Pouch slot you like. Now use that item and you will summon your spirits, select it again to make them go away disappear. You can summon them again by replenishing your blue bar by drinking from your Flask of Cerulean tears.
Finally, if you want to do this without entering this menu, press and hold the Y button in your Xbox controller, I'm guessing it is the action button in PC or triangle in Dualsense, to make the shortcuts appear on the bottom left corner and select the Bell. And that's it, now your good to go and take on some heavy foes while exploring the Lands Between.
Be sure to check out more Elden Ring videos that I'll be uploading to this playlist right here as I progress through the game, but for now, I hope this was useful, thank you for watching, and keep enjoying the game.
