The Wheel of Time is a unique fantasy series in that its core premise is change doesn’t exist. Spoiler alert if you don’t know this already, but the concept of time in this series is bound to a wheel, which constantly weaves the same “pattern” through each chronological age. These “ages” last for several thousand years, and there is no definite measurement for them. But there is information about them, scattered throughout the series, and in this video, we’ll be exploring all of it. Without further ado, let’s take a look at every age in the Wheel of Time, talk about their major events, and discuss how they shaped the mythos of the series. And keep your spoiler hats on if you’re a show-only fan, because there will be a lot of those in this video.

“The events seem to occur in the wheel’s first full turning.”
Nope. There are multiple references in the books to multiple turnings prior to the events of the books. They mention the last battle having occurred countless times before, and the bore being completely repaired so it can be while again when it’s opened in the second age again. The heroes of the horn have appeared multiple times as well, spun out repeatedly and living full lives before being recycled, some of those lives included the previous third ages.

And the first age is when no one knew the one power. Discovering the one power marked the end of the first age. The legendary figures and objects of pewter come from the second age, the age of legend.

The books are not the first turning of the wheel. There are a number of references to previous turnings of the wheel, and some things of power are said to existed prior to the age of legend (Age 2). The heroes of horn are spun out repeatedly as the wheel turns and also have some references to previous turnings.

I am utterly amazed. He managed to mispronounce 99% of everything and also managed to get more than a few things completely wrong. I... kept expecting it to get better. Spoiler: it didn't.

Ah, so the Creator is so super “hands “off” due to its belief in “free will”, it won’t eradicate evil, but WILL strike down humanity because of that very same free will. Hmmm

Wow, calling them just a farming people is reducing what they did so much. The Aiel were the servants of the Aies Sedia and did a bunch of different tasks to support all of civilization, one of those tasks was farming but that was far from the only tasks. Did whoever wrote the script for this video read any of the books?

The portal stones can be used by the one power, but are stated to not be artifacts of the one power and existed before the one power was discovered during the start of the age of legends

It is never said that the book is the forst turn. Also Lewis Therin and Amaretsu are not the first channelers.

I have read the first three books 4 times each, and subsequently not been able to finish the 4th one before setting it down for nearly a decade as many times. (found it too slow and derivative) This video makes me kinda want to power through, as well as maybe give the Amazon series another look. I appreciate the uploader for not going too heavy into spoilers also.

I dont think that the books take place in first full turning. Iirc At one point rand is musing on the fisher king piece, contemplating its similarities to himself and how perhaps its actually a memory of him from an earlier cycle.

Amazon has one of the most epic fantasy stories in their hands and they’re not giving it the time and resources it deserves

There is no evidence that this story takes place within the first turning. Indeed there is far more information to believe it is NOT the first turning, but a subsequent turning.

You need to reread the wheel of time again, the concept is not that it doesn’t change with time or that the pattern doesn’t change. If that was your take away, you didn’t understand it.

One of the reasons that book readers for the most part are happy with the show, (those that are at least), is that with every turning in the wheel, the details of the story will change, even if the broad strokes remain the same.

My guy. There's a pronunciation guide in the back of the books.

Why is it that balance always means "evil must exist", and never "good cannot be completely defeated"

Like...if balance were truly a thing, the dark one should have been done, and the wheel would enforce balance and reprison him.

Callandor was not sealed by the female Aes Sedai, Lewis Therin was the one who did it.

Loved the book series since I started to read it not long after the 4th book had just released in the early 90s and read them all until the end but I cannot find myself a fan of the TV series as I watch a few episodes here and a few there. Just find that they changed way to much for no other reason then because they could for me to enjoy it being a lore buff in most series I dont get me wrong, couldn't care less if there are parts they had to shorten due to budgets and so on...including rewrites of things that might be hard or outright impossible to present well on screen.

But for those who liked the TV show, my condolences on its cancellation....I do know how it feels when a series you love get cancelled.

All of this is so interesting! thank you for all the background on the WoT lore! It really helps those of us who have not read the books yet! I think it's so interesting and complex, I'm really obsessed with it now. 😃🤓

I was glad there was very clear single shot of the moon in episode 3:4. It is was obvious our moon not an alien fantasy moon. I hope people got that

The heroes of the horn are bound to the horn, not the light. They fight for whomever blows the horn.

Question from a non-book reader so the Wheel of Time takes place on earth and what we are witnessing in the show is our future?
